DVD and Blu-ray Releases for February 22nd, 2011

February 22nd, 2011

It's a pretty good week on the home market, all things considered, with two $100 million first-run releases on this week's list. On the other hand, there doesn't feel like a whole lot of depth and there are about as many featured reviews as other releases, if you count late reviews and ones where I'm still waiting on the screeners. One of these late reviews, Megamind could be the Pick of the Week, but I'm giving the Blu-ray one last chance to arrive before its release on Friday. More...

Featured Blu-ray / DVD Review: Hatchet II

February 18th, 2011

Hatchet came out in 2007 and while it never found an audience in limited release (very few horror films do) it made enough money on the home market that a sequel was made. Hatchet II did only slightly better at the box office, but does it have what it takes to thrive on the home market? More...

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for February 1st, 2011

February 1st, 2011

There's still a lull when it comes to first-run releases on the home market with no major, or even midlevel hits coming out this week. In fact, the best-selling release according to Amazon.com is Alice in Wonderland on Blu-ray / DVD Combo Pack, which is a contender for Pick of the Week. The other major contender is Let Me In on Blu-ray, which failed to find an audience despite impressing critics almost as much as the original did. I'm going to give the honor to Let Me In, but both are worthy contenders. More...

New Releases were Far from Super on Per Theater Chart

October 5th, 2010

Not a lot of action on the per theater chart this week with only one film, Waiting for Superman, topping $10,000. It managed an average of $12,026 during its second weekend of release, but it also saw significant expansion and by this time next week will have crossed the $1 million milestone. More...

Limited Releases are Freaking Out

October 1st, 2010

There are quite a few limited releases on this week's list, include a few that are opening in dozens of theaters. Freakonomics is generating the most buzz, but it doesn't have the reviews to back it up. On the other hand, FUBAR II could do well in Canada. And on a strange note, Ip Man is coming out this week, but it has already been released on DVD / Blu-ray. More...
