Per Theater Chart: Restlessly Waiting for Awards Season
September 21, 2011
Restless won the race to the top of the per theater chart with $15,467 in its lone theater. However, given its reviews, I don't think the word of mouth will be there to help it expand. The Lion King was second with an average of $12,941. The Mill and the Cross was the only other film to cross $10,000 at $11,354 over the weekend and $15,443 from Wednesday through Sunday.
There were numerous other new releases that ran the gamut from strong enough that at least some expansion is likely, to missing the Mendoza Line by a serious margin. Jane's Journey was the best of the rest with $6,193 in one theater. Connected: An Autobiography about Love, Death & Technology opened with an average of $4,434 in three theaters. Back Door Channels: The Price of Peace was soft with just $3,425 in its only theater. 3 earned just under $10,000 in four theaters for an average of $2,455. Granito: How to Nail a Dictator just avoided missing the Mendoza Line with an average of $2,165 in two theaters over the weekend. Happy Happy wasn't as lucky, opening with an average of $1,781 in four theaters. The Weird World of Blowfly was worse with $1,036 in its only theater.
This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Charts alumni:
