Synopsis
The Mill and the Cross Brings to life Pieter Bruegel's panoramic masterpiece The Way to Calvary, a majestic rendering of the Passion of Christ set in Flanders (year 1564) under brutal Spanish occupation. As epic events unfold, bawdy country living continues apace: couples entwine, musicians play wind instruments, and children scurry about among the ducks and geese. Concurrently, soldiers torture their enemies against a deceptively bucolic landscape.
