Weekend projections: KPop Demon Hunters wins weekend

August 24th, 2025

KPop Demon Hunters

The KPop Demon Hunters Sing-Along Event will pull off a landmark box office win this weekend, topping the third weekend of Weapons by $18 million to $15.6 million, respectively, and becoming the first Netflix movie to top the weekend box office chart. With the rest of the weekend marked by movies targeted at niche audiences, the streaming crossover is a boost for theaters, although one that highlights how rarely Netflix takes advantage of their huge market power to make some money by selling tickets to events. Entering its second weekend, Weapons once again claimed the top spot at the domestic box office, bringing in over $24 million. Although several new titles hit theaters this weekend, none appear poised to disrupt the current box office hierarchy. More...

Now in its third weekend, Fantastic Four added just under $13 million, bringing its 17-day domestic total to over $230 million. More...

Madame Web

Despite taking a backseat at the box office to Bob Marley: One Love during its opening frame, Madame Web once again finds itself as the widest release in North America this weekend, as it retains (mostly by contractual obligation) its opening count of 4,013 theaters. The superhero film starring Dakota Johnson has earned over $28 million in its first eight days, a figure that has been doubled by One Love, which opened alongside Madame Web on Valentine’s Day. This week witnesses three new wide releases, accompanied by a pandemic era film making its way back into cinemas. More...
