Weekend Estimates: The Fallen Jurassic World Still Comes out on Top with $60.0 million

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom fell like a typical blockbuster hit, down 59% to $60 million over the weekend for a two-week total of $264.8 million. This matches our prediction perfectly. The film will have no trouble crossing $300 million next weekend and should finish north of $350 million domestically. As for its international numbers, it added $56.1 million to its running tally, which now sits at $667.6 million, while its worldwide total is a hair under $1 billion at $932.4 million.
Incredibles 2 also matched our prediction nearly perfectly with $45.55 million over the weekend for a three-week total of $439.73 million. At this pace, the film will become the first animated movie to reach $500 million domestically, but probably won’t get there until it falls out of the top five. Internationally, the film managed $44.3 million for a total of $207.1 million. This might not seem like a lot compared to its domestic total, but it still has barely opened in half of the international markets. The film’s biggest opening was in Brazil, where it made $6.5 million. This is the best opening for a Pixar film and the second best animated opening of all time. Likewise, it has the second best Pixar opening / best animated opening in Taiwan with $3.2 million. Next weekend, the film debuts in France, while it has major market openings through till September.
Sicario: Day of the Soldado opened with $19.01 million, which beat all but the most optimistic predictions. On the other hand, the film’s reviews are just 62% positive and it only managed a mere B from CinemaScore, so I’m not happy about its long-term chances.
Uncle Drew also beat expectations, albeit by a much more narrow margin at $15.5 million. Its production budget has been estimated at $17 million to $19 million, so this is a fantastic start. Its reviews are 67% positive and it earned an A from CinemaScore, so it should do well enough domestically to break even early in its home market run.
Sanju opened in eighth place with $2.55 million in just 356 screens. It is not unheard of for a Bollywood film to earn a spot in the top ten, but it is still very rare.
The best limited release of the week was Three Identical Strangers with an average of $32,605 in five theaters. That’s stunning for a documentary. That said, we’ve had a few documentary hits already this year. Maybe the genre is on the rise.
