Thursday Night Previews: Hail Storms into Theaters
February 5, 2016
Hail, Caesar! got off to a relatively good start on Thursday earning $543,000 at 1,815 theaters. This puts it in between the previews for Dirty Grandpa and The 5th Wave, meaning it is on pace for close to $11 million over the weekend. Its positive reviews could help it over $11 million, which would match predictions perfectly.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies only managed $300,000, which isn't a good start. Krampus took more than double that during its previews late last year. Granted, this is not a particularly good time of year for Thursday previews, but I was still expecting more than this. Mixed reviews will neither help, nor hurt its box office going forward.
The Choice is struggling, to be polite. It only managed $290,000 during its previews. By comparison, The Best of Me earned $525,000 back in 2014 and that movie only opened with $10.00 million during the weekend. The two films' reviews are very similar, which is further bad news for The Choice. It looks like Star Wars: The Force Awakens will remain in the top five one more weekend.
