Per Theater Chart: Jobs Earns a Raise

Steve Jobs was expected to be a hit in limited release, but not this big of a hit. The film scored more than $500,000 in just four theaters for an average of $130,381, which is the best per theater average for a film released in 2015. In fact, it is nearly double the previous best, Sicario. The second best average of the week was $16,543, which was earned by Goodbye Mr. Loser in 22 theaters.

The rest of the new limited releases were not impressive. Ladrones only managed an average of $3,763, but it was playing in 375 theaters, which is a lot for a limited release. The rest all failed to reach the Mendoza Line ($2,000 per theater). Knock Knock came the closest with an average of $847 in 22 theaters. It was playing on Video on Demand, which is a mitigating factor. Trash was also playing on Video on Demand, which explains its average of $602 in 17 theaters. Finally, there's Xenia, which earned $358 in its lone theater.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple of Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Ladrones opened with more than $1 million, so it obviously reached the $1 million milestone over the weekend.
  • Sicario remained in the top five crossing $25 million in the process. By this time next week, it could be the biggest limited release hit of the year.
