No Bright Spot on the Per Theater Chart
September 22, 2009
It's officially the first day of Fall, and you can tell just by looking at the per theater chart.
No film was able to reach the $10,000 mark on the per theater chart, but two did come very close.
Bright Star was the best with an average of $9,984 in 19 theaters while the overall box office leader, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, was close behind with $9,716.
The best of the rest of the new releases was Teza, which opened with a strong $8,907 in its lone theater.
Paris opened with nearly $50,000 in 6 theaters for an average of $7,753.
Disgrace was not nearly as strong, but with an opening average of $4,205 in three theaters, it wasn't a disgrace either, so at least it didn't live down to its name.
Wanted wasn't with an average of just $3,062, while The Burning Plain was cold with an average of $2,798.
Devil Girl missed the Mendoza Line with an average of $923, but there were mitigating circumstances as the film had limited showings.
For instance, it was scheduled to play only one day in New York, not the full weekend.
There appears to have been no major milestones reached by any per theater chart alumni during the past week, but with Awards Season just around the corner, this should just be the calm before the storm.
