Transformers: Age of Extinction poster

Transformers: Age of Extinction earned top spot on the international chart with $201.3 million on 10,015 screens in 37 markets. This includes a record $99.81 million opening in China, which is basically a rounding error away from its North American debut. It also broke the record in Russia with $21.23 million on 2,171 screens. Its opening in South Korea was nearly identical with $15.88 million on 1,597 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $21.98 million. The final major market of the weekend was Australia, where it pulled in $8.30 million on 623 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $9.56 million. The film likely cost about $300 million to make and advertise, so it still needs work to break even, but this is an amazing start.

The Breakup Guru was next with $24.18 million during its opening in China. This was enough for second place in the market and second place internationally.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 slipped to third place with $19.2 million in 54 markets for a total of $108.7 million internationally. This is a good milestone to get to, but it will obviously need to get to more before it can be seen as a financial success. The film debuted in the U.K. over the weekend, but only in Scotland, earning $1.03 million on 134 screens. That was enough for sixth place in the country as a whole.

Maleficent fell to fourth place with $16.0 million in 55 markets for totals of $383.7 million internationally and $585.7 million worldwide. It will hit $600 million worldwide early next weekend and will finish as one of the biggest hits of the year.

The Fault in Our Stars slipped a spot to fifth place with $13.8 million in 54 markets for an international total of $86.7 million and $196.6 million worldwide. It will get to $200 million before the weekend.

22 Jump Street remained in sixth place with $9.694 million on 1,872 screens in 33 markets for a total of $54.40 million. The film had no major market openings, but it did grab second place in Australia during its second weekend of release with $3.35 million on 359 screens over the weekend for a running tally of $11.94 million. It landed in third place in the U.K. with $2.05 million on 480 screens over the weekend for a total of $25.52 million after four weeks of release.

Edge of Tomorrow was next with $7.5 million in 63 markets for totals of $235.1 million internationally and $319.4 million worldwide after a month of release.

Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie opened in first place in the U.K. with $7.33 million on 522 screens, including $1.39 million in Ireland alone. That's the biggest opening in Ireland for a local film.

X-Men: Days of Future Past and Blended were in a tie for ninth place. X-Men added $6.4 million in 39 markets over the weekend to its total, which now stands at $491.7 million internationally and $715.1 million worldwide. This is better than nearly all analysts were expecting, so the studio should be more than happy.

Blended rounded out the top ten with $6.4 million in 37 markets for an international total of $31.3 million. This includes a second place debut in Mexico with $2.27 million on 1,105 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $2.89 million.

Frozen fell out of the top ten internationally, but remained in first place in Japan for the 16th week in a row. Over the weekend, it pulled in $2.71 million on 527 screens for a total of $237.37 million in Japan alone. Internationally the film has made $863.2 million and $1.264 billion worldwide. It has now made more in Japan than Brave made domestically. If you look at just the United States and Japan, the film has made $638.08 million, more than the first Pirates of the Caribbean made worldwide.
