It came as no surprise that Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen was the best selling new release and the best selling DVD on the chart this week.
During its first week of release, it sold 5.33 million units and generated $122.49 million in consumer spending at retail, which makes it the third-best selling DVD of the year and the second best in terms of revenue generated after just one week of release.

It's kind of a mixed week on the home market. True, we do have Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen, which should be the best-selling DVD of the year, as well as a record-breaking Blu-ray. However, it's not a very good movie and it seems to have scared away all the competition. There is a Transformers release that's worthy of the DVD Pick of the Week, but it's Transformers - 25th Anniversary Matrix of Leadership Collection. Also winning that honor is It's Garry Sandling's Show, The Complete Series.

There was a mix of old and new on the top of the Per Theater Chart this week with Humpday opening in first place with an average of $14,369. The Beaches of Agnes was in second place with $13,584 in one theater during its second weekend of release. The overall box office leader, Brüno, was in third place with $11,110. Meanwhile, last week's per theater champ, The Hurt Locker, just managed to remain in the $10,000 club with $10,686, but it also expanded significantly, which makes this achievement even more impressive.

Another slow week for limited releases with only three releases on this list. However, two of those three releases are earning fantastic reviews. Sadly, it's the third release that has the widest release.

June gave us some unexpected hits in The Proposal and The Hangover, as well as expected hits like Up, not to mention the biggest hit of the year, so far, in Transformers - Revenge of the Fallen. However, despite this, 2009 lost a bit of ground to 2008, and this will likely continue this month, as this month last year saw the release of The Dark Knight.
This year we have a couple of potential $300 million hits, but nothing likely to perform on that scale.
Then again, I only predicted Dark Knight would make $250 million, so we could be surprised again this year.
The box office is certainly hot, and is currently running more than 12% ahead of last year's pace.
