Weekend projections: Predator: Badlands projected to hit $40 million on debut

November 9, 2025

Predator: Badlands

After a dismal month or two for new movies, we finally have a new release that’s being met with enthusiasm by moviegoers. Predator: Badlands will open with around $40 million this weekend, according to 20th Century Studios (aka Disney). If that number holds up, it’ll be the best debut (ignoring inflation) for any film in the Predator franchise, beating 2004’s AVP: Alien vs. Predator. More...

Weekend prediction: Predator: Badlands shoots for $30-million-plus opening

November 7, 2025

Predator: Badlands

A terrible run of form at the box office looks like it will come to an end this weekend, thanks to a relatively strong opening for Predator: Badlands. The Numbers Business Report: 2026 Q3 Box Office Prediction

November 3, 2025

The last two Business Reports featured our first analysis of 2026, with predictions for all announced wide releases in the first and second quarters. In the latest issue of The Numbers Business Report, we continue building out predictions for 2026, shifting our focus towards the beginning of the end of the year. Our feature article presents our first full-quarter prediction, along with detailed movie-by-movie forecasts for the major releases scheduled for that period.

July’s releases dominate the third quarter at the box office, led by major franchise continuations and the highly anticipated Christopher Nolan film, The Odyssey. Predicted to claim the number one spot in the third quarter is the next in the Spider-Man/MCU franchise, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, following Spider-Man: No Way Home, which earned $814.81 million domestically.

Another significant continuation arrives from Illumination’s Minions/Despicable Me franchises (which have earned $1.95 billion to date) with Minions 3. Other notable franchise releases include the live-action Moana, a sixth Insidious movie, Clayface joining the DC Universe, a reboot of the Resident Evil franchise, a Practical Magic 28th-anniversary reunion, and an Evil Dead spin-off.

Weekend projections: Paramount claims top spot for Regretting You on exceptionally quiet weekend

November 2, 2025

Regretting You movie still

This is a great weekend to go to the movies if you like having a theater to yourself. In fact, by that measure, this is one of the best weekends in most people’s lifetimes. The combined box office of all movies reporting so far stands at less than $50 million, and we estimate not many more than 4 million tickets will be sold this weekend nationwide. The one bright spot is arguably a surprise win for Regretting You, which is holding quite well in its second weekend (down 41% from its opening). Paramount is claiming the weekend win for Regretting You, although Black Phone 2 could still win, and the two films’ estimates stand just $100,000 apart as of Sunday morning. More...

Weekend predictions: Black Phone eyeing box office win on incredibly slow weekend

October 31, 2025

Black Phone 2 movie still

Halloween weekend is generally not a great time to release a movie, with the key movie-going demographics either trick-or-treating or partying. With Halloween falling on Friday this year, and none of the movies currently in theaters performing particularly well, we’re looking at very quiet movie theaters this weekend. Horror movie Black Phone 2 looks like the favorite to win the weekend, with less than $10 million. More...

October 30, 2025

Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere

Despite opening in just 3,003 theaters, newcomer Chainsaw Man—The Movie: Reze Arc slashed its way to the top of the weekend box office, carving out an impressive $18 million in its debut. The anime feature was trailed by another fresh contender, Regretting You, which earned $13.69 million in its opening frame. The newcomers pushed former champ Black Phone 2 down to third place in its sophomore weekend. With Halloween weekend in full swing, audiences are being treated to a menagerie of new releases, some hitting theaters as early as Wednesday, and others gearing up for a Friday debut. More...
